"As a parent of three adult children, I have experienced first-hand many of the challenges that you face"
-Renée Austin
All children have the potential to succeed in life and contribute to society.
However, not all children get the support they need to reach their full potential. Working with children in a variety of settings for 30 years has taught me that children thrive when their parents and caregivers have effective tools and skills to understand and meet their needs, provide encouragement, and teach discipline in a way that builds their self-esteem and supports a respectful relationship between adult-child.
Parents need information, but they also need support. Working as an independent family coach aligns my passion for advocating for children, with my knowledge of child development and lived experience as a professional and a parent. It allows me the opportunity to be a partner/sounding board/neutral 3rd party who assists families with identifying their goals and helps establish new routines and behaviours on a flexible schedule, as determined by the nature and intensity of their specific needs, so that they can achieve and sustain positive change.
I hold a master’s degree in child and youth care, which is the foundation for my work. The field of child and youth care counselling is committed to the well-being of children, youth, families, and communities. It emphasizes care, education, relationships, and social change. Child and youth care counsellors are trained in addressing the developmental issues and day-to-day dynamics of relationships, within both the home and the community environment.
As a parent of three adult children, I have experienced first-hand many of the challenges that you face: lack of cooperation, sibling rivalry, discipline, bedtime, getting out of the door on time, developmental challenges, homework, their mess, picky eating, juggling, and managing the ever-growing list of extra-curricular activities available to children today, peer and academic pressures on children, and the over-arching challenge of technology.
Parenting can be stressful and as such, parents need support to strengthen their capacity to manage the stress and struggle of raising children. It is my deep honour and pleasure to extend a hand to those of you who are at an earlier stage in your journey and accompany you as you take small steps to help your children become the amazing adults they are meant to be.
I look forward to partnering with you soon!
Renée
Hands - On Experience
As much as I love learning from research and education opportunities, I love applying my knowledge in real time even more. In addition to working with children, I have the privilege of spending quality time with my 2 year old nephew, and my newborn granddaughter. I'm having a great time bonding with these little ones and supporting their development during this early stage of childhood.
